Buying a VAT-Qualifying Motorcycle from the UK

Some UK motorcycles are VAT Qualifying and can be especially attractive to overseas trade buyers. This guide explains how AnyBike identifies VAT-qualifying motorcycles, how export VAT is handled, and what evidence is needed when a motorcycle leaves Great Britain.

What does “VAT Qualifying” mean?

When a supplying dealer confirms that a motorcycle is VAT Qualifying, AnyBike can identify the motorcycle with the gold VQ shield.

🛡️ VQ · VAT Qualifying

As part of Seller Check, AnyBike reconfirms the VAT position with the seller. Before the VAT treatment of the final export transaction is completed, AnyBike will also obtain and check the seller's VAT invoice.

The VQ badge identifies the seller's stated VAT status. The final VAT treatment of your AnyBike purchase is confirmed as part of the purchase and export process.

UK VAT and destination taxes are different

A UK export that qualifies for zero-rating does not mean the motorcycle is free of tax.

Your destination country may charge import VAT, GST, customs duty, registration tax or other local charges. These are separate from UK VAT and depend on the destination, motorcycle origin and local import rules.

Important: buyers should confirm destination-country import taxes, customs requirements and vehicle registration rules with their freight forwarder, customs agent or tax adviser before purchase.

Proof of export

Evidence must link the transaction and the specific motorcycle to its export from Great Britain. Depending on the shipment, this can include:

  • motorcycle VIN and registration details
  • buyer and destination details
  • freight forwarder or carrier details
  • transport and customs references
  • commercial or official export evidence
  • evidence that the motorcycle actually left the UK
Handover to a UK freight forwarder is not, by itself, final proof that the motorcycle has left the UK.

Who is selling the motorcycle?
